Princess Diaries 3 is in works 18 years since the first movie

This Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap, broke the news via several sources, that Disney is currently working on Princess Diaries 3. Although we have no news of the cast as of yet, the film is set to be a continuation since 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Based on the young adult novels by author Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries cemented itself as an icon for teens and beyond since it first aired 18 years ago, all the way in 2001. The film went on to be one of ‘the classics’ that even adults went back to, time and time again. The film starred ‘The Sound of Music’ icon Dame Julie Andrews and launched Anne Hathway’s meteoric career in film.
The writer for successes like Reacher and DC’s Supergirl Aadrita Mukerji is confirmed to be writing the script while the producer of both Princess Diaries movies, Debra Martin Chase will also be producing the sequel.

While neither Julie Andrews or Anne Hathaway have confirmed that they will be reprising roles as Queen Clarisse Renaldi and Princess Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi (now queen), Hathaway has previously expressed an interest in the sequel. Speaking to ET in October, she said, “I would more than entertain it, I'm pulling for it… If there's any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen."
