A nine year old boy from Dallas, Texas fell off his father's shoulder while at the Astroworld concert. After more than a week of medically induced coma for his injuries at the Texas Children's Hospital, Ezra Blount became the youngest victim of the "mass casualty event".
On the night of 5 November 2021, approximately 50000 fans awaited Travis Scott's performance at the 350-acre NCG-Park at Houston, Texas. The rapper's appearance on stage caused a massive "crowd surge" that led to several injuries, cardiac arrests and the death of 10 lives.
Ezra's father, Treston Blount explained the events that took place on the night of the concert on a GoFundMe page for medical expenses. He stated that the young boy was on his shoulders when the crowd surge knocked him unconscious. When he regained consciousness, little Ezra was missing and was later located in a hospital with severe injuries.
The USD 1 million lawsuit filed by Ezra's family attorney against Travis Scott, event host Live Nation, cited the extent of Ezra's injuries. The lawsuit read that he was “kicked, stepped on and trampled and nearly crushed to death". A Houston Chronicle report on the calls received by 911 that fateful night stated that calls became "unintelligible" as the crowd smothered several lives.
