A story published by online news source Egypt Independent on Friday claims that the tomb of Alexander the Great may finally be located. The location is potentially in the Marai area of western Egypt's western Siwa Oasis.

The claim has been made by the director of the Tourism Department in Siwa, Mohamed Omran during an interview with local channel Sada al-Balad.
He noted that Siwa has been the site of the discovery of antiquities dating back thousands of years and that a temple was discovered in the area in 1995 and 1996. The historical mission had claimed then that there was evidence pointing to the idea that this was Alexander the Great's tomb.
Two months ago, Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities also reported that a statue of Alexander the Great has been uncovered in a residential and commercial zone in the northern city of Alexandria after nine months of digging. The city was named after Alexander the Great.
The Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, spoke to the Xinhua news agency and described that the dig revealed a network of tunnels possibly used for storing water during times of drought.
While this is still massively speculation at this time, the tomb of Alexander the Great and it's possible discovery leading to more information on how he lived has fascinated many historians and archaeologists. Alexander the great inspired many other "greats" in history long after his death, including Julius Caesar and Cleopatra.
