MILO introduces paper straws for packets sold in Maldives

In an announcement, Nestle, the company which produces MILO announced that they have become the first Ready-to-drink beverage in Maldives to switch to paper straws.

The company said that this move was made as part of their sustainability journey towards reducing single-use plastic, which also is in line with ban of single use plastic in Maldives.

Milo is ready to drink product which is preferred by many children and adults in Maldives. It is especially a preferred drink of students during intervals in schools.

Nestle has been introducing paper straws in select countries which require such transition due to internal sustainability policies. They also transitioned to 100% paper straws for our entire MILO range Malaysia under which an estimated 200 million plastic straws were eliminated per annum.

According to MILO their move in Maldives is in line with the country’s efforts to eliminate single use plastic by 2023. The country enacted a law in June 1st which seeks to reduce imports of single use plastic items, including plastic bags, straws, plastic cups and plates, product bottles/cosmetics and toiletries of less than 500 ml and cotton buds amongst other items.
